- 希望と絶望は表裏一体:Hope and despair are two sides of the same coin — each gives meaning to the other
In Japanese four-character idioms, “前途有望” (zentoyūbō) — a road ahead filled with light — and “捲土重来” (kendochōrai) — rising again with renewed force after defeat — could both be called other names for hope.
And the poet Noriko Ibaragi left behind these words:
“At least guard your own sensibility — you fool.”
