This work powerfully renders the four characters “断固決意” (Resolute Determination), inspired by the iconic line from Hanamichi Sakuragi, the protagonist of the legendary basketball manga “SLAM DUNK”: “I’ve developed what you call resolute determination.”
I’ve depicted Hanamichi in ink, and in the kanji characters placed alongside him, I’ve layered my own resolve.

Why the Challenger’s Words Struck My Heart
Anyone who has read “SLAM DUNK” knows the weight of the scene in which this line is delivered.
It’s the moment when Hanamichi, once a beginner, overcomes numerous setbacks and resolves to face basketball with complete seriousness.
Those words contained a powerful will to never turn back.
I myself am still on my journey as a calligrapher and as the representative of a design company.
I will never give up until I succeed.
With this vow in my heart, I hold my brush daily and face my work.
Hanamichi’s line resonated deeply with me.
The “Resolute Determination” Embedded in the Calligraphy
In this work, I expressed Hanamichi’s powerful expression through gradations of ink.
The fine lines depicting his hair and facial features, and the roughness and purity of youth—all of these convey the passion hidden within him.
I wrote the characters “断固決意” (Resolute Determination) with bold, daring brushstrokes.
Each unhesitating stroke is proof of a determination focused solely on moving forward.
They say calligraphy reveals the heart of its creator, and in this work, my own resolve is etched as well.
